Losing coolant

Never had a prob with the Yanmar 50hp diesel till today.

Two coolant systems - raw water (OK) and closed system - lost all
coolant - refilled - lost it all again about an hour later. Found one
small leak - the top vent hole in the vented loop.

Why is coolant dribbling out of the top of the vent loop?

Luckily the win was beam reach all the way home!

Because the crack in the cylinder liner allows the explosion inside the
cylinder to blast through into the coolant, driving the coolant up the
loop?

Because the explosion in the cylinder is getting past the leaky head
gasket?

Because the crack in the cylinder head is doing the same thing a crack in
the cylinder liner would do?

Pressurized gas from a cylinder is getting into the water jacket by one of
these means. The engine needs to be disassembled to find out IF it can be
repaired or whether we need to REPLACE it.

It ain't gonna be cheap.....

.....it's a BOAT!

Why is there a vented loop on the engine coolant side? Or are you
saying that coolant is coming out of the raw water vented loop?
