Water is leaking down the mast and into th cabin at the partners.
This area has been "sealed" using Spartight. Anybody know how to
soften or remove this stuff? Need to get out all the old material
before resealing.

Thanks

You don't need to remove the spartite. It just fills the space in
place of mast blocks. You can seal around the spartite with sealer or
caulk each year.

I have spartite on my mast. It coumes out each year and stays on the
mast.

Hi Grant,

We are still on the initial installation of our Spartite (mast hasn't
been unstepped yet) and it has not leaked yet. It is my understanding
that it is not uncommon for it to leak after the mast has been unstepped
and stepped a few times. Just running a bead of 101 or silicon prior
to setting it in place usually does the trick.

Spar Tite is not a sealant. After installation it shrinks slightly and
will allow water to run down the mast. I use liquid BoatLife. Works
perfectly, also on the chain plates, because it flows readily into every
chink.

Not true. We intalled a Spartite systems 4 years ago and have
yet to have a leak.. It is as tight as when it was installed both around the
spar and around the collar. If it leaks soon after intallation, I suspect
that the surfaces were not prepared properly or the temperature
was not within range. Once the mast is pulled, I would not be
surprised if it does not seal totally.
