I need some newsgroup help, please.

Does anyone have personal experience cruising the BC waters listed here that
they would share with the skipper of a 30' twin diesel boat, 12' beam, 300
nm range, 6 day water supply, who would like to spend most of this summer
between Port Hardy and Stewart, BC?

1) Wyclees Lagoon, off Smith Inlet - narrow, shallow entrance
2) Elizabeth Lagoon, Fish Egg Inlet - narrow, shallow fast running entrance
3) Codville Lagoon, Fitz Hugh Sound - been here before but would appreciate
any info on where the landslide of 2003 was located
4) Dean Channel - best anchorages for Nascall Hot Springs, Eucott Hot
Springs, Elcho Harbour
5) Ellerslie Lagoon near the head of Spiller Channel - there are reports
that the entrance is ill charted
6) Briggs Lagoon at the head of Briggs Inlet, north of Shearwater
7) Alexander Inlet at the N end of Meyer's Passage - anyone taken a dinghy
or kayak into the lagoon at the west end?
8) Bishop Bay Hot Springs - the gangway and float were reported removed in
May 2002. Have they been replaced? Where can you anchor at the east end?
9) Union Passage at the south end of Grenville Channel
10) Baker Inlet off Grenville Channel - is Watts Narrows as easy an entry as
it looks to be on the chart? (At high slack)
11) Telegraph Passage, the Skeena River to Port Essington, and Inverness
Passage
12) Morse Basin southeast of Prince Rupert
13) Khutzeymateen Inlet - anchorages at the head (the highlight of this trip
will be spelling "Khutzeymateen" correctly twice in a row!)
14) Observatory Inlet - all, but especially Larcom Lagoon
15) Welcome Harbour, NW Porcher I and Kitkatla Inlet, SW Porcher I. Does
anyone know whether diesel and/or potable water is available at the village
of Kitkatla?
16) Principe Channel - Anger Island area, and especially Ire Inlet
17) West side Campania Island
18) West side Aristazabal Island - (this will run "Khutzeymateen" a close
second)
19) Higgins Passage, west side
20) Kildidt Narrows and Inlet

TIA to anyone willing to share.

If anyone finds the Northwest Passage, ... don't tell me.
I'm having too much fun looking for it myself.

I'm planning to make the trip all the way to Glacier Bay this summer, so my
experience is limited to the San Juans for now. I'll be making the trip in a
38 sail boat with similar fuel range.

A Jeff (using the name of "Messing With Boats") made the trip last summer in
a power boat.. Hopefully he will jump in here and provide you with some
information. In fact I have one of his Douglas cruising guide here that I
borrowed and I'm still using for planning the first leg.

I googled and found your thread on Glacier Bay and will respond to that

I think that Jeff (aka Messing with boats) will be a good source of
information since he launched at Port Hardy as well and was cruising in a
boat of similar size and range. Very nice guy and we met up when he was in
Seattle, exchanged notes, plans and publication.

I'll send you his email by private message, just in case he's not following
this USNET group.

My earlier email just reminded me that I still have one of his Douglas
Guided (for San Juans to Queen Charlette, etc.)

I'm pretty sure your invitation was extended to Steve, but we are coming
your way in 2005, and if you're in a "Hawg" buyin' mood, we'll be sure to
stop. We visited Excursion Inlet in mid-June 2002, just before the
commercial fishing fleet took over the float, and really enjoyed your part
of the world. We've got references, y'know, ... I've swapped lies with DG,
the Crabber of Couverden Cove, and we're on a first name basis with the
Mayor of Pelican and Harry, although on second thought maybe those aren't
such hot references!

When the fishing fleet that goes to Cross Sound and beyond, fills thier
holds where are they going to take the catch now that the Pelican cannery is
closing?

What timing; I just got back from the Florida Keys with my boat
yesterday. I liked Alaska better...

As Steve said, I went from Port Hardy to Sitka last summer in a 26'
powerboat without problems. I looked at your list and can tell you
there's a nice new floating dock at Bishop Bay Hot Springs. I was at
some of the other places you mentioned, but will have to haul out the
charts. One problem we had was not having enough time to do this
properly. We alloted seven weeks, but it was too far. We may go back in
2005, but this time I will trailer to Prince Rupert and plan to just
circumnavigate Admiralty Island instead of going from Port Hardy.

Fuel waas not a problem if you can go 80 nautical miles. Other
provisions (except alcoholic beverages) were available everywhere but
Hartley Bay. Fish were often available for trade for beer.

You should have looked me up while you were in camp. I live in the
house with the greenhouse on the front just east of the store a bit.
Been here for 30 years. We buy fish out there as well as Sitka Sound
Seafoods, so there will be a market for those fish even if Pelican drys
up and blows away. Yup, my Hawg-in-Dos offer goes for any of
"Touristoes" who ask for me by name, when they come ashore.
