Why Redundancies?

"Anchoring OUT"? Where else? "In"?
"Go DOWN BELOW"! How far?
"UP ABOVE"! How high?
"It went IN the water." Are you sure?
"It went OVER the side!" Not through or under or around?
And so on...

Why Redundancies?

You should take it up with the Department of Redundancy Department.

Don't like English? Take it back to where you bought it...G

Seriously, Latin is logical and dead, English is silly and vibrant.
Which would you rather spend time with? Or, with which would you
rather spend time? (See?)

Now, if you want a real linguistic nautical challenge, read the
Patrick O'Brian novels. Note that a Spanish windlass is not a female
hang glider from Madrid. It goes downhill (or over the side, or
between the devil and the deep blue sea, or abaft the mizzen) from
there.

And if it doesn't, there'll be the devil to pay.
(Finally found out what the nautical origin of that saying came from)
(Boy, there's tortured grammer, but I'll let it stand..let that be a lesson to me)
