Thanks Dave for the Sea Clear thoughts. I'd not heard of them. I've been
running The Cap'n since about 1999, in fact the version I have is "The
Cap'n95". It has proven terribly unstable on my new laptop, running XP
Pro. I didn't really feel like shelling out the kind of money needed for
a new Cap'n and I have BSB/KAP charts from the Bahamas to the Western
extremes of Lake Superior so it was nice to find something that is happy
with this format.

I loaded it last night and dragged my laptop with me on my morning boat
ride to work. I works like a charm! The only thing I can see that it
doesn't have is tides and currents; being as I sail on the Great Lakes
this is no drawback

Thanks
Marty

Nobody must have told him about Ozieplorer.

Ah well, lets keep it to ourselves!

Dennis.

Dennis, I have used OziExplorer, I don't know what Ozieplorer is.
OziExplorer is 95 bucks, Sea Clear is free.

Cheers

Another option is the free download "Chart Navigator" from MapTech.

It may not have GPS input among it's "working features." I had an
older version on another computer that was rather cranky. The new
version won't work with the GPS hockey puck I have, which I attributed
to 1- cheapo off-brand GPS and 2- my lack of computer expertise. It
does have what look like functioning menu options for GPS input.

It certainly doesn't recognize my puck either, Sea Clear does, so I'll
probably stick with Sea Clear.

Ah, OK. I apologize for the bum steer but I appreciate the time you
spent on it. So it wasn't just my lack of computer skills after all!
