Crown 28?

OK, another week, another boat I'm looking at. This time it's a Crown 28.

Now, Crown 28's are common as dirt here in Vancouver, but almost unknown
anywhere esle (anybody have a "base PHRF" for one...?). I've seen them
around, of course, but never been on one. Anybody have any stories?
Anybody gone offshore in one?

I was looking at one in Ladysmith BC a while ago.

They are based on a Cal 29... all the Cal's (except this one) have
flat decks. The Cal 29 has a normal-looking coachroof.

The molds were apparently sold to a Vancouver boat builder, who
reduced LOA to 28ft (prob'ly for copyright reasons). Other than that,
they are the same.

Many had wells for an outboard, the one I looked at had a Farymann
inboard diesel.

Boat I looked at was mid-1970s. No sign of spongy deck etc, hull
seemed to be fairly substantial. My guess is that (lake most of that
era) the glassing was pretty solid.

Pretty simple rigging -- single spreaders, 4 lower shrouds, normal
sized forestay / backstay with a split and backstay adjuster.
