Then the story; boats, it was about boats. Seems because of the cost of
operating [ motor boats, I'm assuming the story was more about motor boats ]
the boats are not leaving the docks. And when the boats don't go out the
marina's don't
sell gas, and all the etc's etc's..

The story went on to say that on any day the marina's have the feel, sound,
of a churchyard.

No one around, no activity.

Here at my marina that seems to be the case. But 90% are go-fast
cigar boats in hanging slips. They use to be able to deal with
spending 1,100 dollars a weekend racing around the bay. At 3-4 grand
they spend most the time sitting at the dock watching TV.

I'd say in the last couple years the cigar boat use here has dropped
70% .

Sailboats are still strong in the area and use has not dropped...

I went sailing. Wednesday night races.

Finished dead last.

On Lionheart, we're used to watching the fleet sail away from us, no matter
what we do, unless it's really rough. Of course, if that happens, they
cancel the race when the big ketch is at her best.

Our handicap is so big, we can still place fairly well, even if we arrive
hours after the race committee has gotten drunk at the bar and has gone
home....(c;

We are in a similar situation here.

Not so much the rough weather, but the huge handicap.

The club has two fleets, A amd B.
The A fleet (the FAST boats) run two laps while the B fleet
runs just one.

I figure if I can cross the finish line before being lapped
by the leaders, I won!

We've managed that exactly once.
But it was a great race.

Roger
Interesting article and very well written. There's more than a few sailing
magazines that could benefit from you talent.

While in Mexico, I didn't have to press 1 for Spanish.
While in Iran, I didn't have to press 1 for Farsi, either.
While in Florida, I had to press 2 for English.
It just isn't fair.
