forward-looking sonar, i.e. horizontal ?
Is there such a commercial product or does anyone know of a custom
implementation that is documented ? Thanks. -- Courtney Thomas s/v Mutiny lying Oriental, NC WDB5619 |
forward-looking sonar, i.e. horizontal ?
West Marine carried two different models of forward looking sonar. One is on
my wishlist. I can't recall the name off hand but look in their catalog in the "depth sounder/radar" section or search their website. Was about $1000 if I recall correctly. I guess you could try a 600 ft depth sounder with forward facing
transducer on a bow bulge - but I am pretty sure it wouldn't 'see' out as far as 600 feet in that mode.... Believe Interphase makes them. May be others by now.

I have several friends with Interphase - think it's over sold as a fwd
scanner and think it's display is a piece of ****. On Tue, 25 Nov 2003 17:34:07 -0500, "Doug Dotson" wrote: I have a friend with an Interphase. Loves it. Doug "Courtney Thomas" wrote in message ... Sorry, I guess your several friends trump my one friend who had
found his way into many anchorages using it. Some folks expect a gizmo to compensate for common sense. Doug s/v Callista "jlp2550" wrote in message ... I second that. Interphase has helped a lot in Finnish (rocky) archipelago.

What do you mean by that kind comment? Something against forward looking
sonars in general, my personal experience using the unit for over six years or Finnish archipelago? Or is it something more personal in nature. Wallu "jlp2550" wrote in message ... Sorry, I tend to favor hand-on experience first and newsgroup
opions second. My friend used one all this summer and was very pleased with it. We were able to negotiate entrances we never could before. Doug s/v Callista "jlp2550" wrote in message ...
