forward-looking sonar, i.e. horizontal ?

Is there such a commercial product or does anyone know of a custom
implementation that is documented ?

Thanks.

West Marine carried two different models of forward looking sonar. One is on
my wishlist. I can't recall the name off hand but look in their catalog in
the "depth sounder/radar" section or search their website. Was about $1000
if I recall correctly.

I guess you could try a 600 ft depth sounder with forward facing
transducer on a bow bulge - but I am pretty sure it wouldn't 'see'
out as far as 600 feet in that mode....

I have several friends with Interphase - think it's over sold as a fwd

Sorry, I guess your several friends trump my one friend who had
found his way into many anchorages using it. Some folks expect
a gizmo to compensate for common sense.

What do you mean by that kind comment? Something against forward looking
sonars in general, my personal experience using the unit for over six years
or Finnish archipelago? Or is it something more personal in nature.
