My sailboat MSD vents through a small fitting on the port hull within a
couple feet of the bow.

My vents are just forward of midships. Never smelled a thing, even
under power.

I should add the vents are at the top of the hull. High water in the
holding tank is above the waterline when heeled.

Here's a picture of where mine is...
see the small dark fitting (actually s/s) just below the rub rail on the
port side near the bow.
