I guess you mean through the deck or through the cabinside? On many
boats the cabin side is also the topsides.

So, assuming you meant the former, the vent should be through the
topsides high enough above the water line so it doesn't become submersed
through healing and rough seas.

Putting the fitting on deck is a bad idea. Water could get in and clogs
could happen with ease. Also it could be a tripping hazard.
