As of today, anyone thinking of taking the Intra-Coastal Waterway from
Hampton Va to Albemarle Sound and south had better be prepared to take on extra fuel. The primary stop over marina "Pelican" was destroyed by the hurricane and will no longer sell fuel. The wet dock (Fuel, water and dump station) has been totally destroyed and it will be months before it is available for water and dumping. Because of the cost, they will no longer provide fuel. The other marina is very restrictive; long narrow, shallow channel with the fuel dock located at the end of the pier without a turning basin. The state has pulled their permit to sell fuel and it is not likely that it will be anytime soon before they get their inground tanks up to EPA standards. The next nearest fuel, water and dump station is Alligator river marina, about 40 miles across the sound from PA1 (pasquotank River entrance) Good luck snow birds...... |
