Anchor Watch

I use to set the old Loran for anchor watch.
Now with the new GPS Chart Plotter installed in the cockpit I will not be
able to hear the anchor alarm from inside.
I wonder what would be the best way to solve this problem without having a
repeater inside the boat.

Get one of those battery powered alarms that parents set by the
babies bed. When the baby makes sound the alarm sounds to wake you up

I have a second cable that plugs into 12 V outlets in the cabin so I just
bring the GPS below.

However, I sleep right through its alarm. It just isn't loud enough. The
funny thing is, I wake up for things like the motion of the boat changing
when the tide turns. I just haven't been able to train my mind to put that
little electronic beep on the list of things to keep track of while I'm
sleeping.

Most modern GPS units have a wire point that can be connected to the
negative (usually) side of a cheap $7 alarm. The positive side of the
alarm/buzzer/piezo is connected to a power source such as taken off a
light. To ensure that I sleep soundly at anchor I have one of these on
the ceiling of the saloon - about 4 feet from my head in the forward
cabin.

Believe me, it is well worth taking the small trouble involved in
installing one. When I go to sleep with the GPS anchor alarm set, I
know that should we move, either due to a change of wind (usually) or
the anchor dragging (very seldom), I shaqll be awoken with a loud
"barp, barp" etc. I find that I am instantly awake from a deep sleep
and on my feet, knowing exactly what the alarm means.

Before, I would sleep lightly unless in a quiet anchorage, fearful
that I wouldn't hear the cockpit GPS alarm.

I like the idea and I will review it seriously.
Thanks for the suggestion.
