Bahamas sanitation
 

None of the cruising guides I bought for my upcoming trip to the Bahamas
tell me anything about whether I can use my macerator there. Of course
I'm not going to use it in anchorages or populated areas but are there
any regulations about this?

None. You can dump directly overboard. As a matter of fact you
will be hard pressed to find a pumpout. As you correctly surmise,
dumping in an anchorage is bad manners. Many of the anchorages
are pretty open so things get swept away quickly. More enclosed
anchorages like Marsh Harbor, Hopetown, etc are pretty much
open sewers anyway just due to the town waste in addition to the
many anchored boats.

The only place I saw anything said about discharge was Highbourne Cay
marina basin where any discharge was forbidden. They also had no
pumpout and no shore toilets.
