Yo Larry ,, I went over to say hello to one of the retiree's today. He was
sleeping in a chair near his boat.

Not all the boaters are unfriendly .. some are very nice.

Yeah, most are when they're asleep.
Good on you for not waking him up.

And this is government work. The marina
and yard are owned and operated by the City of New York.

You're out at the World's Fair marina, no?

I considered it briefly last fall. Do they let owners paint the bottom, or
insist it be done by the yard?

Yes, we are in World's Fair Marina. They almost prefer that you do your own
work. If you insist, they will do it for you. Everyone was fully aware of
the tranny change. Their own guy (a really good Irishman who is as affable
as can be most days) was out with a bad back. For that kind of work I
really prefer the yard do it in case something has to be done over. Right
now I am having them change batteries, 4Ds, which won't do his back any
good. WFM has other attractions, Shea Stadium. The Mets. The US Tennis
Open. Forty-five minutes to Midtown for $2 ($1 if you are over 60). Ample
parking reserved for boat owners. Not to mention friendly and helpful
marina mates.

Out of curiosity, what do you pay per foot/month
to stay there?

For 37 feet, it's $73/ft for the season, nominally April 1 to Nov 1. Land
storage for winter is limited to first come. Water storage is plentiful.
Floating slips with water and 30 or 50 amp power. Rates are lower for smaller
boats. Give them a call at (718)478-0480.

That sounds pretty reasonable for New York. We
currently have our boat on the Texas gulf coast
and are paying $185/mo for a 38' non-liveaboard
slip with fresh water and 30A 120V AC service. If
If we stay aboard for more than 5 days straight
during the month, it is counted as liveaboard, and
there is a $55 surcharge for the month to cover
the increased utilities.

Given your shortened season you are paying about
$9.13 per foot per month vs our $6.32 per foot per
month for a liveaboard slip--not bad considering
the difference in locale.

Don W.

Don't come to Ft. Lauderdale. Marinas are $850/month for a 37'. Private
docks behind homes on the river and canals go for $450/month and up for
non live aboard.
