FCC RT operators permit question
 

I just remembered that I have to get an operator's and station license if I
want to use my VHF in Canada. I believe that having US licenses covers me.
If I'm wrong about that, please let me know.

As I started on the downloaded applications, I remembered that I got the no
test, free with a box top, license back in 1980 and it was supposed to be
good for a lifetime. I'm still alive but the little piece of cardboard
disappeared about 20 years ago. Should I apply for another one or try to
get the FCC to resurect the record? It's kind of hard to believe that a
government that would keep Teddy Kennedy of an airplane flight because
someone of a similar name appeared on the terrorist no-fly list (Yes, it
really happened.) could still know that I had a license in 1980, let alone
that I'm the same Roger Long. I would think my failure to notify them of my
numerous changes in addresses over the year might have rendered the license
invalid anyway.

Advice from anyone who has wondered the maze of FCC proces would be
appreciated. Any idea on turn around time for these applications?

Roger,
I still have a tattered, faded RT license that I got in Alaska in 1961.
I tried to get a replacement from the FCC and they said that it was to
old to show in their database (guess they didn't put records from the
30's to the 70's in the DB) and to apply for a new one. Maybe they just
wanted the $50.

Do a NAME search on LONG, ROGER

I got 6 hits but none of them look like you. I'd suggest trying it
yourself.

If you don't show up in the database, they have no record of you.

still active..???...Government, go figure.

Roger Long in Holbrook, NE, had a business band license WHY273 but it's
expired and he didn't renew....

Roger Long of Hampton, NJ, WB2VBN, is good until 2015, a General Class
ham operator. He's had that call a long time...(c;

Nope...Don't find any Roger Long in ME with a ship license or a
Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit, either.

They do search the tax bureaucrats to make sure they don't give you a
license if your taxes aren't paid up. You have to have an FRN before you
can use the ULS to get your RROP...isn't that wonderful?

My Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Permit dates back into the 1960's.
The "callsign" perforated into it like your passport said 20J0121. It
doesn't show up on any ULS database, and isn't in my records with my ham
license, either. You'll probably have to get a new one...$$$$$$$ you
know. I got it just for the hell of it back when I was a kid after
getting 20W1956 for CB...(c;

Thanks for looking (and you too Wayne). I lived in Boston at the time and I
looked at the side as well and it appears I fell off the radar screen.
Which "lifetime" do you think they were referring to when they said it was a
lifetime license?
