cruising time-- puerto vallarta to san diego
Greetings to all.
Can someone tell me where I should look to discover info as to how long it would take to sail a 40' boat from Puerto Vallarta to San Diego? I understand winds, currents, weather, etc, all play a factor-- but where do I start? Thanks. John Skiffington Simi Valley, CA |

I do not know where you can look but I have made the trip before. It is 2 to 5 days to get from Puerto Vallarta to Cabo San Lucas. In the winter that will be kind of up wind so you may want to go to Mazitlan first and then go across. It is about 750 miles from Cabo San Lucas to San Diego. A 40 foot boat with a big engine can make it in a week if the weather is good. There are two deisel stops between Cabo and San Diego. The Pemex station at the head of the pier in San Carlos in Mag bay has deisel and Turtle bay has deisel. I made the trip leaving at the end of April from Cabo San Lucas on a small sailboat and made the trip to San Diego in 3 weeks. There are boats that travel this route all year. Plan to motor sail. It's all upwind on the nose so you'll be powering - that's why people
love the SD to PV trip and hate the PV to SD trip - it's known as the Baja Bash. On 21 Oct 2003 15:14:42 -0700, (John Skiffington) wrote: Greetings to all.
