Default Boat US Insurance opinions

Just decided since I get their magazine to check with them on insurance.

They are/were awful. The rate was 100% higher than what I have now.

For the life of me, why am I a member of this dreadful organization. They
don't seem to do anything for boating.

What are your opinions of Boat US?

I switched to BOAT/U.S. from Allstate when I asked my rep, herself a
sailor, whether Allstate would cover any subsequent damage if a through
hull broke because of faulty maintenance. She had to call her
underwriter to get the answer: "No." AFAIK, no insurance company would
cover lack of maintenance, but a marine policy will cover the resulting
damage.

Since, I've found that BOAT/U.S. settles claims fairly and equitably
far faster and with less hassle than most others. They have survey teams
mobilizing *before* hurricanes hit. Within days of the recent big ones,
they were in there and saving further damage.

Others mentioned the "Agreed upon value" vs "fair" market value
difference, which is huge.

Marine insurance understands "salvage". Their lawyers eat property and
casualty lawyers for a light snack in admiralty court. The marine
policies include EPA clean-up coverage, and allow boats to stay in the
water more than 6 months a year.

Just got a note that we're covered if the marina's rental agreement
requires us to agree to some provision that voids most other policies
(forget the specifics).

Vast difference between the two types of insurance.

As another said: you get what you pay for, and BOAT/U.S. is the best
blend, in my opinion.
