Yacht Sharing

Is there such a thing as yacht sharing similar to condo sharing. In
other words, if I have a cruiser in Northern CA, is there an
organization that helps match boat owners such that we can exchange
use of similar boats?

Please excuse the crude analogy, but sharing your boat would be like sharing
your wife..

Anyway I wouldn't consider it. Bad experience in chartering my last boat
(Cheoy Lee Clipper 33) for 3 months.

The money was good but the boat just was never the same to me.

You might not feel this way if it were a simple day sailer or weekender. As
long as you don't hold any particular effection for the boat.

If this were a group or network, like Time Share, then no one really owns
the boat and everyone is free to abuse it since the cost of the
repairs/depreciation would be spread out over the whole group (guilty or
not).

Let's face it, owning a boat of any degree of complexity requires that the
owner be on hand to ensure that the systems are operated correctly and not
abused. Even for a short period of time.
