Nah, it's too big for that. Goes on a spit, over an old fuel
tank which I then burn leaves in.

It'll cook faster if you leave a couple of gallons of heating oil in the
old tank!

Cheers

I probably should go make amends.

No problem. The mall diamond stores open at 9AM, right on time....

That could be a dangerous thing to do. The wife may expect similar
offerings everytime he's wrong.

Oh GAWD, that'd be several times a day for me -- IF you accept her side
of the story, rather than mine ;-)

My cousin is a physician with Mayo Health Systems in Austin, MN, the home
of Hormel (Spam). They actually have a Spam Museum there. You'd love
the place. I think you can sample the product after the tour.

I wonder how long a person would live if all they ate was Spam, Twinkies,
and squirty cheese?

Maybe indefinitely. We might all be doing it wrong.

don't know how long they'd live, but I'll bet they'd take centuries to
decompose.

They tow us to the dock and I go to pay. By this time I was
seriously happy to be off the boat with my wife so even *the
astonishing cost of $480* didn't faze me much. It was $10/ft for
the ungrounding (28' sailboat) and then $165 minimum and a couple
other fees.

snip...

Whoo hoo! Around here the Coast Guard...or some friendly boater will
always come to the rescue...for free.

Re-thinking this, I regret posting it. It has me blaming my wife for
my predicament when I had nobody but myslf to blame. If I had
displayed much more confidence and a fun atitude I could probably
have talked my wife into enjoying the overnight grounding.
Unfortunately, I consider sailing to be an excercise in problem
solving so I do not sail for the same reasons she does. I DID invite
her. I apologize.

It had to be written to vent your frustration and allow you to think
more clearly.

I often do similar, and usually remember to hit "delete" before hitting
"send".

I understand your reasons for liking single-handing as I used to be the
same, but having accommodated "the admiral" for over a decade now, I can
categorically state that nothing beats having your lady along.

Yes, that means that we stayed put when I was pretty certain we could
muscle through. Yes, we dove for safe anchorages before conditions got
even mildly dicey. And sometimes we found that we could have made that
leg comfortably.

But the admiral now categorically trusts my judgement, despite the times
I screwed up. One morning we awoke to a 20 degree heel due to a
grounding. Ho hum, we'll wait for the tide.

We DO, though, always have iron rations on board at all times. For us,
that's a couple packages of Kraft Deluxe Mac and Cheese and a couple
foil packets of tuna or salmon. That's enough calories and protein to
keep us for a couple of days. "Tuna casserole" is one of our few shared
comfort foods. Yours is probably different. KEEP it onboard. When (not
if) you screw up, whatever your lady deems comfort food will go a LONG
way towards mitigating the specific circumstances.
