longevity of aluminum

I'm in the market for an aluminum boat, and have a line on a 1979
Seasport Islander. The boat has some nice amenities, like a new 150
hp motor, top, and some electronics, but the age of the hull worries
me a bit. It has been used in the salt for the most part and was
trailered, but my real question is this; is an aluminum boat that has
been fairly well treated worth looking at if it is 23 years old? I
really don't want something unsafe.

It's simple, just have it surveyed by some one very familiar with aluminum
boats.

You might also ask the survey to use the device to check thinkness of the
aluminium.
