Yamaha 3 cyl inboard ME200F
Hi, I have a YAMAHA ME200F inboard diesel and am having trouble
locating the anodes. I think I have found one in the heat exchanger (some residual zinc on a plug). I cannot get a replacement to fit so I have tried epoxy gluing a pencil anode. Does anyone know if there are more than one anode on the engine? The previous owner did not know about anodes so never replaced them... (bit scary really). If anyone can advise if there is a workshop mnaula I would also appreciate the information. The Austrlain YAMAHA delers are not familiar with this engine and can't help too much. |

@i3g2000cwc.googlegroups.com: I cannot get a replacement to fit so I have tried epoxy gluing a pencil anode. Can't help you on the pencil locations, but just want to say gluing them in place won't work because what makes it work is an ELECTRICAL connection between the zinc and the engine block and that won't make contact through epoxy or any other glue. Zinc and the metal they protect are simply shorted batteries in a salt water electrolyte, slowly eating the zinc away as the electrolyte (seawater) floats by. The plates have to be shorted together (zinc to engine). |

Thanks Larry, thats something I hadn't thought of, perhaps I need to take the cover plate off and get the plug hole re tapped to accept standard pencils. |

I have the 3 GMF 30 and spent some time trying to find them. The last
word I got was that they weren't there because they weren't needed. I've had the motor over 15 years mostly in fresh water and have so far not seen a reason to disagree. I would appreciate hearing if I'm wrong about this. Hans Paabor Toronto Sinko wrote: Hi, I have a YAMAHA ME200F inboard diesel and am having trouble locating the anodes. HI, Dennis, I can best answer this questrion once I take the exchanger
cover off and see if there is any damage... this motor is about the same age as yours so maybe there is n o need for anodes???
