Different water tank cleaning problem
 

The poly water tanks in our boat, get a redish color staining and sediment in
them. We use well water from the marina, and it has a lot of iron in it. In the
marina showers that get the staining we use oxalic acid in hot water, sprayed
on the shower enclosures, and it cleans it off almost instantlly. It doesn't
work very good with cold water.

I'm looking for something to put in the tanks to clean them, and more
importantlly, the lines. We scrub the tanks on a regular basis, but this
doesn't do much for the lines.

Any ideas? Thanks

Staining doesn't impact the water quality, so I wouldn't worry about it
in the tank. A filter in the fill line will help to keep the sediment
out of the tank--just clean/replace it often. Flush it out of the tank
at least annually...recommission the system as previously posted
annually or when the water starts to taste/smell funky, whichever comes
first.

We had that problem with our well water in Rhode Island, and finally
had to give in and get a Calgon water conditioner because none of the
filters I found were at all effective.

Some friends that live in E. Texas had the same problem with their deep well.
They use compressed air bubbling up the well to bring the water to a above
ground tank. This wont help the boat problem but might solve the marinas
problem and as an after thought yours.
