Default Sure hope the bilge pumps are working.....

No, sillies, not in the boat....IN MY CARS! It must be raining 3"/hour
in Charleston as Ernesto passes us in SC. My two old cars leak a
little....luckily they also drain a little...(c;

It's raining on the docks really hard. Glad I'm not there....

Businesses are closing all over this afternoon. The radio and TV talking
heads, all praying Ernesto will improve ratings and blow this place to
hell since yesterday, have the naive scared to hell. Some people even
went to the shelters LAST night, probably spending the night on the gym
floor wondering why the stars were out and the TV heads lied to them.

I bet my breakfast waitress $20 the wind doesn't exceed 35mph at the
airport weather station. She's been listening to too much radio heads,
today. There's no wind at all, right now. I measure the center of
Ernesto on the radar map at:
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?r...erlay=11101111
&loop=no
at 150 degrees, 84 miles from the end of the Charleston Battery.....on it
way to North Carolina.....not Charleston.

I've called 3 radio station to correct them telling the public the storm
was headed NW...wishful thinking on their parts...its course looks to be
020 on the radar loop....and curving even more Eastward.

Seas at our 41004 bouy offshore of Charleston are only 25 knots gusting
to 33 with 8' seas......race weather!...(c;
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41004

The poor TV people are standing in the pouring rain waiting for the awful
gale that's just not going to materialize.....to boost ratings. How
stupid.

Jammercam at the Windjammer Lounge on the ocean at the Isle of Palms near
Charleston is still on the air, so they have power:
http://www.jammercam.com/
It's a little overloaded so be patient waiting for a picture. Click the
DECK CAM for the best picture from the elevated camera up on the
observation deck we rednecks use to gawk at the girls on the beach from
through heavy lenses....(c;

Folly Beach surf cams are either offline or overloaded too much to answer
right now:
http://www.follysurfcam.com/#cams
The bottom cam is user-controlled with 8 views selectable if you get it
online.

The rovercam on:
http://www.follysurfcam.com/rovercam.html
seems to still have its live wavewatch data window running at the moment.
Give that a try, too.

Bouyweather.com on:
http://www.buoyweather.com/wxnav6.js...rogram=nww3BW1
&grb=wna&latitude=32.75&longitude=-79.5&zone=-4&units=e
is a great graphical observation of the winds and direction the surfers
use, here....sailors, too. They also have links to all the bouys and
cams way up to NC, directly from this website to watch the storm from the
beach.

Sure hope my car drain is unplugged.....(c;
Maybe I'll sleep in the stepvan to "simulate an emergency", tonight. The
EOC (Emergency Operations Center) people must feel better, by now. Some
idiot put the new Charleston County EOC down by the boatramp on the
Ashley River. The water in that parking lot would be 25' deep with the
stupid ground-mounted generators all flooded out by now if it were a real
storm. County bureaucrats seem dumber than even state bureaucrats. The
floor of the main radio relay building across that parking lot at the
base of the cop/county radio tower is nearly 6" off the ground! It won't
work, either, submerged like that. The only cure if it's serious is to
get as far away from county bureaucrats as you can get....past Atlanta.

Pretty great storm, actually. I netted $80 betting the believers in
network news $20 a head the wind speed at the Charleston airport wouldn't
exceed 35 mph. I still have two more "collections" to do....(c;

It only rained about 2" on my rainguage, here, but the "storm total
rainfall" graph on the noaa site says some places in NC have ALREADY gotten
8-10 inches!....more tonight! How awful.

Hope THEIR bilge pumps are working....
