I went to the site cited about getting the enormous results with solar.

I can't see how you read the info. My experience was duplicated with
the site's info.

That site led me to
http://www.where-rv-now.com/Notes/So...php#Calculator which is a
pretty cool calculator for any latitude and nature of panel, but
doesn't add in the effect of a high voltage panel array and MPPT...

My experience is that you get a maximum of 1/2 of the rated wattage when
charging batteries which are at 12.5V+. When I connect the panels to a dead
load, then I get the rated output. Of course this is at noon in the
Caribbean with perfect conditions.

PS has an interesting article on MPPT regulators this month. Made me feel
much better about the $250 I invested in one. OTOH, by the time I get Rutu
in the water the MPPT regulators and the solar panels will probably be more
efficient.
