Yo Yachtsmen,, and Yachtswomen ..

Anyone familiar with Christmas Cove? Damariscotta River, near where it
empties into the Atlantic. I was told it is a good anchorage. If you know
the cove, have been there lately, whatever .... any info ??

Thanks,,

What about this weather?

Hi Tom,

Christmas Cove is a good spot but it is very crowded. Hard to anchor but
there are moorings for rent from the restaurant on the north side of the
cove (I forget the name). If you want a quieter place, go a little farther
up the river and hook in behind Farnham Point on the west shore of the river
by East Boothbay. A few private moorings in there but enough room to anchor
out of the current. You can dingy to the Fisherman's Catch (?) restaurant in
E. Boothbay for drinks and dinner.

Tom, I spent 5 weeks cruising Maine last year and know many good
anchorages but you'll have to tell us what kind of boat you bought.

I'm in south Florida right now. You'd have a really difficult time
getting submerged around here.

You might think so, but Bob has been on a submarine in the Chesapeake
which is similar. We were coming down the coast one night (from Ft.
Pierce to Miami) and they were conducting some underwater sonar
experiments off Ft. Lauderdale which they were warning people to
avoid. I also suspect that in the Gulf Stream and probably the Hawk
Channel there would be plenty of depth.

There is a sub base on the St. Mary's River (although that isn't in
south Florida).

It is in south Georgia, a little bit north of Fernandina Beach.

I'm on the west coast near Ft Myers. Anything over 10 feet is deep
water around here.

Ah - I thought that might be it, but South Florida to me means the
Keys and maybe Miami. Over on your side is the Gulf Coast.
