Clogged Fuel tank vent
 

Hi - own a 1993 27' sundancer and have noticed that my fuel vent system is
clogged and not functioning properly. Not sure why or how it got there, but
I am looking for a practical way to free up the line. Because the fuel tank
is not properly venting when it is being filled results in a slow fill and
more likelihood of spillage due to overflow. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. Thx...

I don't have a good way to unclog it but I might know the cause. In my
RV the wasps sometimes make nests in small confined spaces. Spiders
also. You might put a small piece of tape over the vent while in
storage. Just a guess. Good luck.

If you reach both ends, replacing the vent line would be the best.

Can you see the pipe?

It could have become 'kinked' and hence pass little or no air.

A kink would certainly be it... I'll have climb down intothe engine
compartment and check that. The vent line runs down the port side and I am
not sure I can track it through its full travel. Thanks for the
suggestion...

I had this problem to, & found the vent screen clogged with wax after I had waxed the boat.

If you can get to the outboard end, remove the hose and blow into it.
If you can blow through it easily, it's not the hose. (You will have to
take the gas cap off first or this will not work) Then look closely at
the fitting... Salt clogged? corosion? they are cheap and easy to
replace... USE HAND TOOLS... LEAVE THE ELECTRIC TOOLS AT HOME AND RUN
THE BLOWER... obviously no smoking and shut off all electical devices
BEFORE starting the project.
