Chuck Streatch, (publisher of 48 North sailing magazine), passes on.

Charles Clarence ("Chuck") Streatch
April 30, 1927 - June 25, 2006

The entire Pacific Northwest boating community, and most especially the
sailing fraternity, lost a long time friend, advocate, and inspiration
when Chuck Streatch, (founding publisher of 48 North sailing magazine)
crossed the bar in late June.

Chuck was born in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and immigrated to the
United States in 1944. Chuck discovered the Pacific Northwest in the
1950's, while stationed at McChord Field during his service with the
US Air Force. He graduated from OSU in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science
in Journalism and a minor in Chemical Engineering.

Chuck's USAF experience and degree in Journalism probably helped
attract the attention of the Boeing Aircraft Company, which hired him
as a technical writer. During the 1960's, Chuck became associated
with community newspapers in the region. He was employed as an
advertising salesman by the Bellevue Journal and Renton Chronicle, and
in 1976 he became the advertising director of a group of newspapers
that included The University Herald, The Outlook, and The Ballard
News-Tribune.

The boating community will always associate Chuck Streatch with his
fine periodical, 48 North. Chuck founded the magazine in 1981, and
continued to publish it for the remainder of his life. 48 North can be
found aboard sailboats in the Pacific NW as predictably as sheets,
winches, rudders, and a compass. During the 25 years that Chuck
operated 48 North it transcended the status of a mere magazine to
become a legendary institution.

Chuck's friends and business associates will remember him for his
warm smile, optimistic attitude, quick wit, and personal integrity. He
is survived by his wife Mary of Seattle, a step-daughter Marcia Fox of
Phoenix, AZ, and a number of cousins in Calgary, AZ.
