Anyone know of a sailboat for rental by the week? My wife and I are
gonig too Seattle for a week in Aug 06.

I am a retired US Marine Officer with over 20 years sailing.

We are building a 57' steel sailboat and need an ocean fix.

.....As as retired marine, he may consider 'ocean' to be that boring
part of the salt water between beaches. Seattle has the salt water, at
least.

As a retired Marine, you may be able to get a boat through the
US Navy Sailing Association. They apparently have two marinas
in the Seattle Area:

The links to the marinas in Everett and Oak Harbor seem
to be broken, though.

I would encourage you to drive about two hours North to Bellingham, WA.
This is the closest jump off point to the San Juan Islands, which
would give you plenty of places to anchor or tie up to. Squalicum
Harbor (Bellingham Marina) has several companies which will rent you a
sailboat or powerboat, crewed or not, for as little as a day and as
long as you would like.

The following link will give you a picture of the marina. You will
need to do a little Google time to find the outfitters. If you look in
the back of Sail magazine, they always have several ads.

If you are dead set on renting in Seattle, the large marina just before
you go into the locks (I can't remember the name) has a couple of
companies which also rent boats. But it is on an entirely different
scale. Also the marina is in the middle of a mutli-year rebuild and
the facilities are extremely limited.

I'll second this. There are a couple of charter operations in Squalicum
such as San Juan Sailing, and it's a lot closer to good cruising grounds
(San Juans, etc.)

A little late in replying, but if you want to sail in Seattle (and sometimes
they have a boat in the San Juands already) check out
www.WindWorksSailing.com. I'm a member there and I highly reccomend them.
