My new boat was there when you were there. Like
your boat, it went through Hurricane Claudette
back in July 2003. Here is a NWS link which
mentions a F1 tornado hitting Palacios during the
hurricane. Apparently, it was the first hurricane
to hit Matagorda bay since 1971.

Nice photos. Here are some that I took:

Pretty cool pics--thanks for sharing.

And here's a picture of Sea Shanty:

Are those mast steps on your mast? If so, are
they the folding kind. I need to do something
like that also.

Sharon Ragle and her husband Dave are in that
marina also. I bought a autographed copy of her
book "The Oceans are Waiting" at the marina
office. They circumnavigated in their 37'yacht
"Tigger".

They sold Tigger to a Canadian couple.

Ah. I guess I missed that part of the
conversation. Did they buy a new boat, or have
they swallowed the anchor?

Yep. Still not easy to climb.

About $ 16 a piece. Aluminum. I wished I'd spaced them closer
together at the bottom. There about 2 1/2 feet apart at the
bottom. They get closer together and easier to climb as you go
up.

Congats, Don.
Welcome to the world of Irwins.
I don't know if you've found these groups yet so here's the
links. They contain a world of information.

With an 38' you may not have to upgrade later for blue water.
We trailer sail our Irwin 28' out of Boise, ID. Jim

Thanks Jim. I'm on a couple of Irwin lists now.
The boat is more of a project than we though when
we bought her, but we're coping.

Nice "looking down" shot. Is that a Lone Star I see?

I assume you're referring to the courtesey flag. Yes.
This picture was taken at the Port Aransas city dock,
Mustang Is., Texas.
