Jouet 12.8 metre Ketch

Hello, sailors.

Does anyone know of this French design, built from the early '80s to
1990 or so when the company fell prey to a recession? I'm looking at
visiting one with the idea of using it as an offshore cruiser. It's a
fibreglass ketch with a small pilothouse, and it weighs about 20,000
lbs and is 37 LWL and 43 LOA.

Opinions desired.

Thanks,
R.

At one point I was considering the purchase of a Jouet 36 or 38. Did some
web research but was not able to find out too much. I didn't come across
anything that would turn me away from buying one though. I think some of
the boats were designed by Phillipe Briand. You might try posting your
question on uk.rec.sailing as these boats are more common in European
waters. I did that and got a couple of replies (which I didn't save).
If the price is right, and it is described to be in good condition, its
probably worth a look.

I have found out little as well, despite fairly well-honed search
engine skills G. It's yet another sign to me that the world before
1995 or so is fairly poorly documented online in many ways. I was
fortunate the broker had JPEG scans of the original French sales
brochure...and that I can decipher nautical French.

The Joeut 1280 has a "Y. Mareschal" listed as "architecte".

There may be a custom duty issue that could be annoying. We'll see.
Thanks.

Hi, I own a Jouet 12.80 Ketch. I would really love to get those JPEG scans of the original French sales brochures! I'm looking for partnership ownership to split the cost of keeping the boat down south in warm waters. You can check out the boat at www.spala.ca
