Pontoon motor change out

I am shopping for a used pontoon boat and while I'm finding several, I
am also finding out I will need to change out the motor with anything I
buy. We live in Memphis in an area with a private lake restricted to
15 HP. There are several pontoons on the water, so I know it will
work, but question is, how feasible is it to change out the motor. Do
you have to change out the control unit? Is it possible/likely to be
able to use the existing control unit if I buy the same brand motor as
I am replacing? Also, is it possible to create a jig to change back
and forth between two motors (i have a way to pick the heavy guy) with
ease so I can have the larger motor if we take the boat elsewhere?

Any input appreciated,
Cheers,
Frank

Pontoon motor change out

How about keeping the big boy on and mount the 15 as a kicker? Then a
tie rod to the big one to turn it. That's how my (and most trollers)
mount two engines. Very simple. Unless you cannot fit them or unless
you cannot even have a big engine on that lake.
