Small dehumidifiers and microwaves...best for smaller boats?
We've all heard of the kitty litter solution, and many of us have the
Sears type small-file-cabinet sized dehumidifiers at home. But is there a small or mini-sized dehumidifier that can run on shore power or via an inverter that's appropriate for the typical 30 to 35' LOA x 9' to 12' beam x 6 boat? I regularly use a small ceramic "cube heater" with fan to keep the boat toasty at either end of the season, but if it's rainy and windy and you're stuck below, it gets drippy and miserable pretty quickly. In the same vein, what's the smallest dimensional microwave that's a Best Buy? Let's assume it's for heating single dishes and a small size and low draw are more important than speed. Suggestions welcomed, and unless the "marine" version is utterly superior, let's stick with civilian gear, please. I sail on a Great Lake for barely six months a year. R. |

One piece of advice on the microwave - try to find the specs on
efficiency if you're planning to use it on an inverter. I picked my Kenmore based on that; its a 700 watt model that uses 84 Amps off the batteries when used with the inverter. Others have said theirs take 100 Amps or more. I looked briefly at the "mini" microwaves, but they seemed to be low power - like 500 watts - and it seemed counterproductive to have something that would just take longer and likely use more juice. Although some would say they would only use the 'wave when on shorepower, its handy to be able to heat up some leftovers or a can of Beefaroni while underway without firing up the stove. rhys wrote: We've all heard of the kitty litter solution, and many of us have the Sears type small-file-cabinet sized dehumidifiers at home. I have one of these, does a great job
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4532762 I also use a small microwave 600 watts or so which I can use for short bursts on my inverter. Cheers "rhys" wrote in message ... You should probably look for a big humidifier....
There are plenty of them available in the market which can run on a battery.. |
