While looking up the references for a post I did about batteries, I
stumbled onto a new photovoltaic power source call a Sunball from
Australia, whos people are always interested in getting power to remote
outback locations.

This freznel lens concentrator is producing power at 5 cents per
KwH....LESS than the *******s are selling us nuclear power for! Simply
amazing. That ball produces 330 watts, 5 times more power than your flat
panel does in the same surface area. 330 watts is $US825. See any marine
applications, here?

Interesting but I don't understand the US$0.05/KwH. Who are you paying or is
that the amortized cost over the 6 year period mentioned?

Nope, no marine applications I see... Active guiding needed to keep the
sun focused... An acrylic lens that will scratch easily, and yellow,
and craze, 100% sure to have moisture problems in the dome, etc... At
first look I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling that this is something
for my boat... Interesting but not ready for the big time... Flat solar
panels all over the saloon roof is where I'm going...

A flat solar panel of the same size as the Fresnel lens would give the
same power and without any issues of over heating of the small panel
under the Fresnel lens. The Fresnel lens has its own issues of
transparency and tracking the sun. This could be practical if the cost
of the solar panels was so high that it was prohibitive to make them
the same size as the Fresnel lens.

Look at the spreadsheets the company has for download. They are comparing
buying the electric company power to the costs of borrowing the thousands
of dollars to professionally install their system over its lifespan of 25
years, selling surplus power back to the power company that's forced where
I live, at least, to purchase any renewable power you can produce (runs the
special meter backwards).

I can't find any pictures of their SunCUBE on the site, yet. It's around
$US9K for several Megawatt-hours of power.
