Default Broken Injection Pump MD7A

Hello,

A friend is stuck in Mexico with a bad injection pump. Here is the
info I got:

Engine : Volvo MD7A 2 cylinder
Serial Number: 13235

Injection Pump: Bosch
Serial Number: 72103997
Model: VA2/10H13000L/16
Pat. (?): 0-460 302 008

Any idea anyone?

Thanks,

What are you looking for? He can either have it rebuilt or buy a new
one. Both are expensive propositions. I've never heard of a second hand
injector pump from a breaker, but that may be a third alternative.

The engine won't run w/o it.

Ok, here is a little more info:

The piece that is broken is the accelerator pump/actuator deal inside
the fuel injection pump.

This is not user fixable, IMO. You will need to locate a shop with the
right tools and conditions. If the guy sends you the pump, you should be
able to locate such as shop in the US easily. I'd say there must be one
in MX too, but I have no info on this.

The smart money in this situation is simply to replace the pump. Repairs
would be both outrageous and unlikely to succeed. You should be able to
find a rebuilt pump via the Web, but it's still gonna cost ya.

Most any Injector Pump Rebuild Shop should be able to do a rebuild and
flow Bench test on that Bosch Injection Pump. They are very standard
and used all over the world on may diesel engines. I like to use
Hatch & Kirk in Seattle, Washington USA...they have done a lot of
Injector and Injection Pump work for me over the years and done
a good job for me.

The best bet would be to find a used or reconditioned injector pump. A new
one is going to be around a $1000.

However, there have been several people selling/parting out these engines
recently.

Here is the email address of a fellow in Port Townsend who was doing this.
Jerry Wentworth Jerry @mail.galmukoffmarine.com

And here is the email of a fellow in SF area as well. Ron Vanderwell

Both were offering their injector pumps last October. I purchased an
exhaust manifold from Jerry Wentworth and have it on a complete MD7A that
I'm going to offer on rec.boats.marketing or eBay in the next few weeks.

I really don't want to part out this engine since it is in very good running
condition, however, if your friend is really desperate, I would sell the
injector pump for $500. Then I would search out another, sooner or later.
I'm really not trying to rip-off a sailor, but that is what the pump alone
would bring on eBay and that is what I might have to pay to restore this
engine to full and complete condition. (I've been in similar situation
myself).

This injector pump is use and in good operating condition (I have had the
engine running without any indicated problems.), however the sale would be
AS IS.

Thanks for the offer and the ebay lead. Last I heard they have located
a pump in Canada that was being shipped to them in Mexico so they
should be ok for now. I sent them your post in case something goes
wrong with the other lead.
