'cos this'd get lost down there.

Does anyone use forward sonar to scan for shipping containers? Just a
thought. I don't recall seeing much about them other than the odd mention
in mags from time to time.

Whenever I've seen comment on them, it's occurred to me that it would be a
major ****-off for sub captains having some amateur pinging about madly
while he's trying to stay unnoticed and avoid the scatter.

Just curious, it being late Sunday afternoon and all over here.

I've heard a write-up about them on one of the rags a while back. I
don't think they reach out very far, but on a sailboat even a few
hundred feet or thousand feet would be good enough notice, provided
there is an alarm. But it seems to me there is a littel fanfare about
them once in a while, maybe when someone hits a container and makes it
in the news, and then people forget about them.
I personally have them pretty far down on the list, in the "i'd rather
spend the money cruising" category. (Well, I've a _lot_ of things down
in that category, so I may not be a good example :)

Sometimes it's those sub captains you have to worry about...
