Sailboat Cabin W/View ?

When I'm moored I want to be able to sit at the table in my cabin and
have a view. Even when I'm under way I'd like to go below and sit and
have a view. It seem's that very few sailboat's are arranged this way.
The Coronado 25 is. The Asian H28's are. I'm tired of staring at the
wall's - do you know of other boat's with a room with a view?

In general terms, most boats configured with pilothouses give you the
view you seek.

Most modern cruising catamarans have the main saloon raised up with
excellent views. I had to add screens to my windows because there was
too much light and heat coming through.

Gosh .. I'd love a cat. or a pilothouse. Once I was in a tri. with a
great view table, and once in a Panda40 Pilothouse with a huge table in
the house. Probably can't afford those yet. I'm just looking for a
basic sloop 27ft.-34ft.. Here is a window from a Coronado25:

I hope that link worked ..

The CSY 33 has windows along the side of the cabin sort of like a
pilot house.

@g44g2000cwa.googlegroups.com:

do you know of other boat's with a room with a view?

I always dreamed of a boat made of the same acrylic plastic as the
monstrous side window in the 80' deep Charleston Aquarium's main tank.
It's about 3" thick at the base and optically flat!

I'd much rather look down into the sea in a clear plastic hull under the
table than look out at the same ol' waves and swamp grass you're seeing
out the windows, wouldn't you?

"Wow, honey, look at the size of that WHALE 20' under our keel!"
It would never be so boring in the cabin, again....(c;

"Can you read the hull number on that sub off the starboard keel??"

Pilothouse boat's offer good visability. I'd need a large enough house
for two to sit at a table. I can't afford my dreamboat - the Panda40
Pilothouse. Some salons have a raised floor where the table is so that
you are at eye level with windows when seated. Rosalie, is the CSY one
of those boat's? Thank's all. Any other ideas out there? I really need
to get out of the hole ..

Check out the Saturna or the Truant. My Truant has seating for 5 or so
around the table in the pilothouse and a great view.

I love the Saturna 33. I once had a neighbor who would sail to Hawaii
each fall with his. My cousin has a Truant 37 but I haven't been aboard
yet. I should have asked him about it at Thanksgiving - I had forgotten
about these boats. Thank's for the remind .

No I don't think so, but you could sit up on a stool at the nav table
and look out without too much trouble I would think. Actually for
that boat, you can sit in the saloon and look out through the cockpit
at whatever is behind the boat (because it is an aft cockpit boat).

http://www.photoworks.com/share/shar...32C2BF51&cb=PW

are some pictures of the interior.

A CSY is not a cheap boat to buy however, especially the 33 because
there aren't many of them.

I have a Truant 33, the predecessor to the Saturna (the production
model). Saturnas/Truants don't come up for sail often but there are a
couple for sale now on Yactworld.

I love mine!

What's your preferred size range and budget? There are many nice raised
salon and pilothouse sailboats, but most are larger (and more
expensive).

Since others are mentioning 30'+ boats -- how about an Islander Freeport
36?

Thank's Gary, Mat, and Rosalie for the help. I'm really looking for a
new boat. I haven't posted here at this forum for many year's. I have
forgot my original name, but Rosalie will remember me as - the guy who
was wanting to know about his AM radio while sailing too close to a
freighter - and the radar. In Puget Sound. Ohhh - you chewed-me out.
I'd like to get back to this forum as long as JAX and other troll's are

CSY's seem to be well thought out boats. We chartered a37 w/ another couple
years ago and were very impressed. The following year just the two of us
booked a 33, but one 33 was out of commission, so they upgraded us to a 37.
We liked getting the bigger boat, but I always regretted not experiencing
the 33.
You have a right to be happy w/ your 44.
