How close can I get to this island property ?

I've put some pictures on my tripod web site at

http://lantaisland.tripod.com

Suppose I buy a 46' Tayana sailboat with a 6-foot draft
and sail her from San Diego to this island in Thailand
how close do you think I'll be able to get to this piece of
property ?

Does the color of the water indicate that it's too shallow ?
I'm also thinking about building a wooden pier for docking
my boat but wouldn't want to do this if it has to be very long.

Or maybe I should get a catamaran instead.

Is it possible for a very strong gust of wind to capsize
a catamaran in the middle of the Pacific ocean at a time
when there's no tropical storm ?

You need to look at a chart.

You can't tell depth by colour, look at a chart.

Yes. Experience counts.

For an index to Thai charts, point your browser to:

You might do well to buy Thai chart 308.

Cheers

Thanks Bil. It doesn't look like the charts are available
online so I'll have to ask somebody to buy one in Thailand
for me or wait until I get there.

Depends on how many and how big the gunboats are in the area.....

These pictures were BEFORE the tsunami wiped it clean, I suppose.

I have a movie of the tsunami drowning Phuket across the bay.

The photos were taken a few months ago. Lanta Island
wasn't hit that hard by the tsunami and this piece of land
wasn't hit at all because it's on the East side of the island.

I won't have to worry too much about the storms either
because they usually hit the other side.

On the other hand the other side has very nice beaches
and beautiful ocean.

I just found another tsunami video at:
http://www.break.com/articles/tsunamiasia.html

You can see that the person who shot the video didn't
have to run that far to be safe.

Is this a serious inquiry? If so, and if you intend to spend several
hundred thoussand dollars for the boat, and probably a few hundred thousand
for an island. why not spend about $30 more for a chart?

Or even a long dostance phone call.

True for many locations, and not true for many other locations.
