Cruising Bahamas w/ Kids?

HI

I don't stop by much because I don't have internet much but I am here
with a quest today.

I am heading out on my annual migration south in a little less then 2
months and I am looking for others headed to the Bahamas and points
south that might have young ones aboard. I have a boy that is almost 5
and a 2.5 girl and I am heading out of indiantown FL in mid Oct. for
Miami to await the "window" . If you have kids or just want to know who
your friends are as you cruise, let me know who you are.

The email here is a spam blocker. Use danny(at)taddei(dot)org to get in
touch with me or just post here. I am watching for another month or so.

Thanks
May your anchor be tight, your corks be loose, your rum be spiced and
your compass be true.

hmmm, I planned to leave a little later but Late October might be OK.
I might have my 15 yr old son or my 10 yr old daughter and maybe my 18
yr old daughter part of the time. We will be on a 28' S2. We have
spent most of our sailing careers with small kids. I am generally
planning on the Bahamas but my schedule is very flexible.

Hi david,

Planned cruising never works. Generally speaking, that's our plan. We
may end up in the keys for a month or more.

We're on a Cal 3-30 with a deep keel and tall rig. We tend to wait for
fair sailing these days with the kids too. Keep in touch - do you know
the area well?

Danny

GREAT! Nice to see that you haven't given up on that dream.

I once spent a week on a charter in the Keys but have otherwise been to
the Keys on land several times. I am familiar with Western FL but not
the Bahamas or East Florida. My boat draws just under 4'. It would
take me a few days to get to the Keys from NW FL but I really do want
to get to Dry Tortugas this time. After that, it will be back up the
Keys to Miami and then across to Bimini. My schedule is very flexible.
I do intend to cruise for two weeks at a time and then go back to work
for two weeks to get my fix of work while leaving the boat in place.

I hope you can find the windows to get places. You'll have to be
careful not to get stuck places with no access. It's not uncommon to
catch a month or so of gales without a break. In Nassau 2 winters ago I
spent 3 or so weeks getting to know the place while it blew from 25 to
35 knots every day. I finally just left and made my way down to Staniel
Cay when it dropped a little but then it came up again for a month
(remember that 25-35 is quite a bit of wind when the water is at best,
15 feet deep). By then I was trying to make my way back to Miami so I
left on a day when it was only blowing about 20 and the seas were down
to about 7-9 feet. I made my way back to Chub and the next day started
really calm so I started toward Gun Cay. Half way across we got slammed
with 35 knots only I was in about 10-12 feet of water and the swells
were so big our keel hit bottom often.

The point being, schedules and sailing don't mix well and you might
want to stay in the states if you need to be back at work at any given
time. You can catch flights out of S. Bimini, Freeport, Nassau, Staniel
and a few other places but you need to actually be able to get there.
In the keys, life is simple because you can go inside just about
everywhere if you need to, especially with a 4 foot draft. Not only
that, it is still a really nice place to go and stay for long periods
of time. The loser-cruiser isn't welcomed much but a normal, nice
looking boat with someone that can afford to do laundry won't get a
second look.

If you are in NW FL, you'll probably cut across on a passage to Ft
myers or something. You can anchor there still but you need to make
your way all the way back behind the mooring balls (its about 7 miles
back). The local police take pride in breaking federal laws there so
keep it in mind when you're there.

From the keys to Miami life is easy to live/cruise aboard. If you plan

on staying in marinas you should be sure to get a Boat US membership
because some of the best places except it for a discount.

I'll make a point to try and cross paths with you somewhere. If you
want the local run down on anchorages there, I lived there for many
years and know most of them.

Do the world a favor and dont cruise with kids. WE dont need vermin
like you destroying a otherwise wonderful cruising enviroment for the
rest of us.
I bet of you. stay home or go to chuckie cheese.
bob , friend to capt. neal and other like
minded sailors.

[email protected] August 26th 05 11:10 PM

For Bob:

I do my best to annoy intolerant people so maybe we'll anchor next to
you.. Kids are part of life and I enjoy having little ones around.
Even teens can be ok when they are impressed by something. Who is Capt
Neal? Never heard of him.

For Danny:

I realize that once in the Bahamas, longer times spent cruising are a
must. My schedule is very flexible (I already said that).

Now that I am very familiar with all the ports on the part of Fl
between Tarpon Spg and St. Marks and have crossed a few times from
Clearwater to St. Marks, its really just a matter of finding a window
to go. A day or so longer to Ft. Myers.

palmtreedreamer August 27th 05 01:21 AM

What type of scum of the earth are you that you could say something
like that?

I have been cruising with kids since I have had kids and before that I
made a point to be around kids.

Maybe you should do the world a favor and stay away from people. (WE)
must be a very small few. Everyone I know loves seeing my kids. So,
bob and friend to capt neal - Captain Danny Taddei 100 Ton Master USCG
will be out sailing with my kids and giving lessons to them for free
like I always do (ASA sailing instructor - basic through advanced
courses) and WE will be loving life while you exist in some strange,
unbalanced, prosaic world.

Get treated!

[email protected] August 27th 05 01:25 AM

Danny:

Lets find out where they are and anchor next to em blasting Raffi tapes
at full volume.

palmtreedreamer August 27th 05 01:33 AM

I didn't mean to say you didn't have experience, I just wanted to make
sure didn't get stuck.

I know lots of guys that jump off way up north and sail off shore to
the keys but I have learned the pleasure of a good nights sleep so I go
the easiest routes :-) What I did last time, from Port Charlotte, was
to go to fort myers, then shark creek, then across to the keys. I slept
every night!

My real email is danny(at)taddei(dot)org transpose the at and dot of
course. If you send me a direct email, I will send you my cell number
so you can call when you get close. I am leaving the Left coast
(Oceanside CA) on about the 24th of september and we should be back at
indiantown FL by Oct. 9 or so. I need about a week or so to put her
back together after a summer mold out but then I am heading to miami
and the upper keys for a month or so. before heading across. I don't
know exactly when I am leaving because I am meeting up with several
other friends that going with us this year. (btw, we are all surfers
and head out to the out islands more then anywhere else) Just drop me a
line - and ignore the "bob" who obviously isn't part of normal society.

Danny

palmtreedreamer August 27th 05 01:38 AM

People like that don't sail anywhere, they anchor near someplace that
they can get public assistance and exist on a boat because they can't
afford rent. They are the type that make land owners come up with rules
about anchoring out because when they are in the anchorage, crime goes
up in the city.
Ignore him!

bob August 27th 05 02:04 AM

before that I
made a point to be around kids.

the word pedophile just flashed thru my head

bob August 27th 05 02:13 AM

u just had to post all those "credentials" didnt you. i just love it
when inadequate people like you get their panties all bunched up and
start qualifying themselves. your a brainless moron.

bob August 27th 05 02:18 AM

"They are the type that make land owners come up with rules

up in the city. "

I will be the first to call if I see you anchored out in our
municipality, We have an anchoring ordinance and it is strickly
enforced.
bob friend of capt neal and like minded fellows of
the sea.

palmtreedreamer August 27th 05 02:51 AM

Bob,
You are a demented, cynical man with a perversion streak. Anyone
thinking pedophile though this conversation is truly a danger to
society. I posted credentials to state a fact that I AM A CAPTAIN and
not just a friend of someone that calls them-self one. You're
laughable.

As for your municipality, where ever it is, with it's strict anchoring
laws, I call your bluff. State your town, law and when it was signed
off into law. I am quite sure you are nothing more then what I have
already called you.

Stop being a troll. If you have nothing positive to say then don't.
Vermin like you are the reason most of us stay off groups like this. If
you don't do it, you sit around and talk about it. So you and your like
minded sailor friends, that never sail at all, should try and enjoy
your time as voyeur while I connect with the few real people out there.
Take notes. maybe you won't have to stay a loser forever.

bob August 27th 05 03:00 AM

"I posted credentials to state a fact that I AM A CAPTAIN and
not just a friend of someone that calls them-self one. You're
laughable. " WHo cares that you are. I mean really anyone can get
that. The fact that you hold that in such high regard is like someone
saying "hey I have a high school diploma" With pride. ....

"As for your municipality, where ever it is, with it's strict anchoring

laws, I call your bluff. State your town, law" I live in Florida.
There are very FEW waterfront towns that DONT have an anchoring
ordinace let alone the Counties. Anyone with a "captains license" who
sails in Florida waterways would know that. Trust me you anchor out in
my town and the water cops will come knockin.

What town - and I do live in FL..... most of the laws are city laws
placed on Federal waters and don't hold up - you should know that!

What town loser - I'm still waiting?

palmtreedreamer August 27th 05 03:14 AM

My, My! Look how often you post. I must have stepped on your little
toes. I didn't realize that this forum was your only connection with
your manhood.

You know what? I am sorry for stopping in on your little cyber world
and only reason for self respect. I realize some people are truly sick
and need an outlet like this to call their own. Don't worry, I do know
exactly what you are and I won't bother wasting any more of my time.

bob, please never include me in your list of friends or other like
minded men of the sea.

For the record, I write, produce and play music for a living. I am also
about as far right as you can go and try to be as good of a Christian
as I can be. As for mindless, I have a collage education, I am a
commercial, multi-engine, instrument pilot with a CFI, USCG Captain 100
ton with endorsements, ASA sailing instructor, and I think through
everything. I am 42 and Monday is my 19th anniversary. I don't
qualify for any of your brainless assessments.

Bob, your a sick, rude, perverted, lonely man who makes no friends. You
need help. Go get some before you die and go to hell!

One thing I found in newsgroups is there are sick people that have
nothing positive to contribute. They exist only to cause problems. They
would be writing computer viruses if they were smart enough. The best
thing to do is ignore these creeps, plan your trips, dream your dreams
but do not respond to their sick calls for attention.

Thanks for the words of wisdom - I have already chosen them for myself
-

BTW, I like the twist on the name :-)

bob August 29th 05 02:04 AM

"For the record" What record? do you even know where this expression
came from?
"write, produce and play music for a living" So then I was right.
"good of a Christian
as I can be." Ok well,...uh were is the part where I see this being
practiced? Turn the other cheek?
"I am a
commercial, multi-engine, instrument pilot with a CFI, USCG Captain 100

ton with endorsements, ASA sailing instructor, and I think through
everything." OH you left yourself WIDE OPEN here. I know what it costs
to get all those pilot certifications. What went wrong? why are you not
a succesful commercial pilot? You dont go for a commercian, instrument
rating and cfi without career ambitions.so what went wrong?? You think
through everything? well perhaps but you do seem to have a severely
limited mental capacity. So Palm all those 10's of thousands spent on a
aviation career ...what went wrong??? If you knew me. you would know
I am a retired ATP.If you truly went thru a prof. pilot training
program you know what ATP stands for. YOU stand for FAILURE. I Flew
for Delta. Live in Vero Beach, Condo on the water. A Hans Christian
that turns heads. I made it you little ****. you failed. your a
****ing failure.

palmtreedreamer August 29th 05 03:18 AM

I tried to plonk you - You'er still here
You don't listen to music much do you. I had my first hit in 1982 - I
never needed to be somebody's driver. I fly for fun! Those tickets may
seem like a lot of money to you but that is a matter of perspective. I
did own LA Sky Safari out of VNY but I sold it and went sailing for 5
years- BTW, don't brag about Delta. We all know you were laid off with
most of the other delta beginners. is that a vero beach condo or
trailer? I have been all through there - and try to keep going. You can
have that place. It is the cheapest real-estate on the entire coast of
FL for a reason.
