Default OMC Stringer outdrives

I just replaced the top gear unit on my right 1984 OMC out drive, now
when I turn the steering wheel my two outdrives move in opposite
directions. Is there a left drive and a right drive and if I replaced a
right drive with a left drive would this cause this problem?

If you are only talking about direction of the outdrive when steered
and NOT about prop direction, then the upper outer is not the problem.

The hook-up of the steering cables went seriously adrift, is all.

Sorry wrong the steering was never touched just the out drives. I got
the answer from a Dealer the Stringer drives have counter worm gears for
steering twins and my mechanic screwed up by replacing a right drive
with a left drive.

Worm drive steering in an upper outer unit was news to me, in an OMC.
If that's how this one works, I stand corrected!

Or did the mechanic replace the whole right hand drive except the
lower outer unit?
