my boat. My searay currently has a standard FM/CD deck... Is there way to mount an xm system into a standard size bracket? |

The XM Radio docking station has an FM stereo transmitter in it that will send XM music to every FM radio tuned to it throughout the boat (and quite a few boats down the dock!) Just set the boat's FM radio to the same dead channel (we use 88.3 Mhz) that the XM is set to and you're online. For a while, I had the XM little magnet mount antenna stuck to the side of the fire extinguisher by the main hatch, but when it was cloudy out the signal died. Now, it's stuck to the top of a steel plate up under the nav station so it can pick up the satellite through the fiberglass overhead/deck to keep it out of the salt. Works fine in SC that way, but probably not farther north. The satellite signal will come through fiberglass if there are no metal obstructions in the way out on deck, too close. Our XM docking station is stuck to the front of the nav station's communications suite in between the M802 and M602 Icom radios. If you're moored near your friends boat, they can listen to your transmissions on their radios, too! I think the FM portable radio will even pick it up on the beach with the boat anchored off the beach....(c; |
