Stanchions - Rivert or screw

Just wanted to get some ideas of the different methods of affixing the
stanchins to the base, are there any prefered methods.

The ones on my modest cruising sailboat slip into the base and a 'set screw'
holds them there.

Not sure what you mean by affixing the stantion to the base. Are you saying
thet the stantions are set into a socket type of arrangement. If so, ours
are
secured using a couple of screws through the base and threaded into the
station. That way the stantions can be removed when necessary.
