Polishing, clearcoating aluminum
I have a thought and am looking for feedback from someone with experience and knowledge on the polishing of aluminum spars. I know how to polish them. The problem is that after cleaning and polishing the oxidation will return fiarly quickly. Well, how about using automobile clear coat, a highly uv resistant coating to prevent the oxidation Has anyone tried this? Joe |

You can use a spray on clear urethane.... but as with all clear coats
they dont contain UV inhibiters and the coating will fail after a few years. Anytime you disturb the anodized coat on aluminum you risk penetrating through the anodizing ... and then you either re-anodize or wind up polishing/cleaning ad infinitum.
