ANNOUNCE: Rules of the Road

Download a copy of the Rules of the Road, inland and international waters
(COLREGS).
You then will have a copy on your computer, and you can print it so you also
have a hard copy for reference.

http://sail247.com/colregs.htm

We are asking for a very small donation to access this download. Thank you.

Or you can get it here for free:
http://www.uscg.mil/vtm/navrules/navrules.pdf

or this version is nice, but not downloadable:
http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/mwv/navrules/rotr_online.htm

Alan Gomes January 14th 05 07:45 PM

It would seem that you could download the latter version (rotr_online.htm)
using Adobe Acrobat (i.e., creation software), that can capture a web site
and nested links into a single .PDF.

You can down load that one here in total or parts.

The page was set up poorly. I never intended to REQUIRE a donation. I have
changed the page. The download link is available to all who would like
access to it, for free, of course.

I apologize for the clumsy way I originally set up the page.

You could save a lot of confusion if you made it clear up front that
the COLREGS you are hosting is the USA local modification of the IRPCS.
This is a newsgroup with a worldwide community and many of us have no
need or desire to learn USA local rules until we intend to visit your
waters. Is there any chance you can find a 'clean' copy of the
international rules to host on your site?

I expect most countries have some local mods to the International
Rule.

The Canadian ColRegs are available at
http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/S-9/C.R...416/index.html
(we don't have the Inland Rules that the US has, so ours are probably
closer to the International Rule - and they do state where they
deviate.)

Hi all,
One might also want to download the rules from the links listed below
(both International and US Inland):

http://dir.yahoo.com/recreation/outd...oating/safety/

Choose "McLendon's Nautical Rules of the Road" and then "Rules for the
Rest Of Us" for a discussion of court cases explaining the rules
(mostly U.S.), but not always. Maritime law is surprisingly uniform
across borders in many respects.

I have a few more minor corrections to send up and will do so
presently. And please do not attempt to argue with me about the
judge's decisions. They interpret the law - I simply report it.

Regards,
John...
