varnish

dont know the exact thrust of your question.....

A. if the teak is weatherred/grey ..... wash with sodium tri phosphate
to remove the grey, then sand flat to obtain a 'uniform' color, then
apply varnish .

B. If the teak was covered with a 'wrinkling' varnish (modern satin
finish using chemicals to effect the satin finish' then simply sand
flat and apply several coats of varnish over the original

C.If the original finish was done by a 'craftsman' (rarely found these
days) .... who hand rubbed gloss varnish with rottenstone or pumince
and oil, ..... then flat sand with 2000 grit wet & dry sandpaper (wet)
and re-rub with rottenstone and water to change the satin/dull finish
to a gloss finish.

if you could explain **exactly** the current finish it would be easier
to give an answer.

hope this helps.

I'd hire someone.

Oh, and I wouldn't let them use varnish.
