2) Does JAXAshby ever post replies to others that are NOT insulting and
rude?

3) Is there anyone on this newsgroup who thinks that JAXAshby makes it a

of course. see discussions on the inherant dangers of anchoring on all chain,

James,

I think it would be a great idea if you folks would start an
alt.bash.jaxashy newsgroup and take this stuff over there. You all act
so outraged at Jax's mere existence, but you insist on replying to his
posts - especially the inflammatory ones - and even starting new threads
to bait him. If you want him to go away, just ignore him. But you know
that don't you?

It makes one wonder who here is the troll?

I hate killfiling knowledgable people because they just can't let this
stuff alone.

2. sometimes.
3. sometimes.

Variations in his bootleg "medications" and erratic dosing by his
attendants cause marked changes in his avatar. Some think he is the

WRT #3, the individual is probably himself.

I unplonk him on occasion, for a little stimulation. He is a bit
like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.
If you like marzipan and turkish delight and fermented garlic fish

humour and snug up your tolerance collar, first.

What's he up to this week? (Like it matters? You shouldn't eat what

He even complimented me, recently. That was scary. I had to re-read

rhys, did you see the current GOB and its comment about stopping chafe using a
cable through the chocks (two concentric PVC pipes to protect the chock) then
hooked to *rope* hooked to 8 (?) feet of chain hooked to the anchor?
Interesting. Appears to have completely eliminate any chance of chafe.

once. Alternating floats and kellets on chain, known as an accordion

It is a perfectly useful prediction of an approximation of the most
economical cruising speed in some cases.

Sails certainly do suck, because they are anti-curved on the other
side. All arguements can be expressed from more than one viewpoint.
It's a mathematically invertable answer, like the famous "Gravity

You do it more often than that. Besides, Popular Science is the
BEST source of information, partly because it's timely, partly
because it's free if you read it while waiting for your beloved to
meet you by the checkout, also, it must be good, because some people

There is no such force in nature called "suck". It doesn't exist.

btw, a sheet of plywood has no curve or anti-curve to it at all and it most
certainly can be used to move a sailboat forward.

Oddly enough, I am taking a haggis & all the traditional trimmings to

As to panhandling, I've belived a few plausible rogues before now. I

No, I didn't, as I don't get Good Old Boat very often...it's pretty

one, I'll admit. Is there a snubber or other shock absorber in there

the author anchors on rope, using the cable for chafe protection. Read a copy
of GOB on a newsstand. The author (and wife) uses 100' lengths (say they wish
they had 50' lengths) hooked together with carbiners, hooked to a small amount
of chain hooked to an anchor. Makes it easy to put out two anchors (in case
the wind shifts) with a heavy kellet weight to eliminate the rode fouling the
keel or rudder.

nonsence. cut your speed to 80% and you will save 35% on your fuel. cut by
50% and save by about 75%.

fuel required goes up with drag, which goes up at the square of boat speed.

Cut it to zero and save 100%
