Crusader 8.1 Captain's Choice: IGNITION

Has anyone heard of problems with Crusader's 8.1L Captain's Choice
engines' ignition? I have been told that I should reconsider getting
crusaders for repower because of this.

I am looking at the same engines for a Trojan 36--I plan on having
them install in January. I am hoping they are going to be reliable for
some time and hope they are more fuel efficiant then my old chrysler
engines.

What are you putting these engines in?

I would like to find out from somone who has these engines what they
are burning per hour on fuel. The mechanic that is going to install
these for me expects about 20 GPH at crusing speed.

I would love to find chat with some that has these engines. Let me
know what you find out about the ignitions if you don't mind.

Thanks,
JOHN

============================================

For estimation purposes assume a cruising horsepower of about 1/2 the
engines rating, e.g., a 400 hp engine will typically cruise at about
200 hp. From there assume 1 gph for every 10 hp actually used. If
the engines are rated at 400 hp, 20 gph, per engine, is pretty close
to the mark.
