Fruits & Vegies Hammock?

Hi group,

Everywhere I read it says that the best way to keep your fruits &
vegetables on a boat is in a suspended hammock.
I have looked high & low for a hammock around 18" to 24". Can't find
one.
What do people do?

Wehave somethat we bought at West Marine. Don't use them any more after
our first trip. Unless you can string them in the centerofthe cabin
they swing too much and bang the contents against the bulkheads bruising
the contents. Also soft fruits tend to be cut by the threads of the hammock.

Rent a Ford Taurus, they have ideal ones in the trunk. Actually I owned the cars I took them out of.

sea-dog.com makes these- item No.: 671100-1

I though that ABI marine had them, but was unable to find them in their
online catalog.

I think that Victory also imports them (they are popular in Canada)

I have found these nets quite useful IF you can find a place to hang them
such that the contents don't impact the vessel, otherwise you are left
with a rotton mushy mess. I have found it useful to store potatoes and
onions in the anchor locker using these nets. They make use of the
unuseable space on either side of the pile of chain and if the potatoes
all rot in a pile of black goo, it all just washes through the drain
holes. I make sure I remove all produce before rounding Point Conception
or the ponding will turn it to mush.

hope this helps,

On one extended trip, I couldnt convince my wife not to overload the
fruit hammock. It was over the pilot berth so when I slept there it
hung over my head. Her overloading it consistently caused it to
collapse during the night showering me with fruit. I couldnt tell it
was overloaded because it would be dark in the cabin. Drove me nuts.

Well, on the positive side you can look at it as having breakfeast in bed
;)
