Just a heads up...
The Skymate satellite email system has capability to report your boat's postion periodically to an email list you create. However, they have interface issues with some models of Furuno and Raymarine GPS's. (Including my Furuno GP-32). They have committed verbally to me to fix the issue and I have no reason to disbelieve them, but I suggest you ask about your particular GPS before purchasing. They have a backup position locator if the GPS is off (or, evidently, it they can't communicate with your GPS.) It's some kind of doppler calculation off the Orbcomm satellites they use. It gets a position that varies from the GPS position, normally by just 2-5 miles in my experience. However, one night it reported that our SF Bay boat was in Mexico. I wish... For friends and family a few mile discrepancy is really OK, as long as they don't panic when they see your boat on top of a mountain or report the location as precise to a rescue orgnaization. |
