What next?

What a year. After a lousy spring and 1st half of the summer..with my wife
home recovering from an operation, my mom not feeling well and my cat tore
up by the neighbours in a fight. I was counting on the last half of August
and September for some travelling and sailing on my 'new' Sandpiper 565.
Mail came today and there was a jury duty summons for our provincial Supreme
Court. I have to make myself available for the month of September.
I wonder if 'a need for sailing' is good enough excuse to be released?

but you could say you have a *doc* appointment that keeps you from
appearing..........

Much as I hate to undermine the duty of citizens to serve their civic
responsibilities, just babble on during the jury selection process
about how much you hate women, minorities, most political movements,
law keepers, law breakers and are pro-choice and pro-death penalty.
Oh, and that you've always wanted your own fully automatic weapon and
were considering moving to Montana as a result.

You will be dismissed with the court's thanks.

** If I said half of that up here in Canada, they'd lock me in a mental
hospital for a few years...or export me to the 'States'. :-)

Did it come certified? If there was no proof of delivery, throw it away.

Be careful. In a number of states the refusal to accept certified mail is
deemed delivery. So there is no advantage to declining certified mail.
Moreover there is a presumption that first class mail when sent is
delivered. Check to see if your state has an opt out regulation where you
can defer jury duty at least once for a period of six months.

Next time I have to go for j.d., I'm considering a swastika on my forehead, as

in Charley Manson fashion.I don't think I'd have to say anything.

Just rec'd a call from the Justice people this afternoon. I'm deferred until
December. That would be much better as I'd appreciate a nice warm dry place
to spend the month. (Pauly Shore in 'The Jurist')

Sucks to be you right now. Sorry. Just heard from a friend that
found out his parents and kids had screwed up so much that
his cruising hopes are pretty much dashed forever. This after
buying and outfitting a nice boat for the past 3 years.
