Recently there was a discussion here about coffee and "Kopi Lumut" was
mentioned. Today I passed a coffee shop selling Cafe Chamot - Chamot is the Thai name for a Lumuk. I stopped in and, thinking I might sample the stuff, asked how much a cup of this coffee was. Five hundred baht the girl tells me (about US$ 16.60). I decided not to buy any but did ask whether they sold it by the kilogram and they told me "certainly, and the price is 40,000 baht". That is US$ 1,333 a kg. or $606 a pound. Or, $1,212,000 a ton :-) As a comparison, a cup of coffee in a coffee shop type place is usually 45baht - 1.50 Cheers, Bruce |
